Using Living with Christ for Faith Sharing

Living with Christ is a personal experience but it is never just private. It always involves sharing his companionship with others. Just as the risen Jesus shared his insights about scripture and a meal with his companions (Luke 24), so we follow his example and share our beliefs and practices.

Two Sessions Each Month
To encourage this faith sharing with others, each month we will include everything you need for two faith-sharing sessions called Exploring the Scriptures. Gathering a group for faith sharing does not require any special permission or elaborate materials. Many groups begin by gathering for reading, reflection, discussion and prayer about the Sunday readings.

Sharing our Journey
Since the goal of faith sharing is not “study,” no one needs to be an expert on the Bible or on doctrine. We are each an expert on our own spirituality––how we live our Christian faith. So we learn from one another as we share our own Christian journey and how our beliefs and values influence our lives.

We want to learn not just about our faith but to find ways to make it more relevant to our lives. All our learning is for developing a better relationship with Christ and with others on our journey.

Members of a family or those living in a household can use these sessions over a meal or, like the early Christians, for a lively exchange after a meal. A group of friends from the neighborhood, the workplace or the parish, those in a Small Christian Community, an RCIA, adult faith formation or Bible discussion group can use these sessions to share their experience of living with Christ.

Eucharistic Format
Our sessions follow the basic eucharistic format: Take, Bless, Break, Share.
This format also allows us to be faithful to the four essentials for building and maintaining a Small Christian Community——community building, prayer, scripture sharing and outreach.

These gatherings offer both information and formation to transform individuals, households, small groups, par-ishes and workplaces. They invite us to develop our spiritual lives to their full potential in community with others and to participate more fully in the life and mission of the Christian community.

In these sessions, we learn the meaning of the Christian message more fully through prayer and scripture reflection so we can share it with our family or household, loved ones, friends, acquaintances, co-workers and others in our parish, civic community and the world.

Living with Christ involves one’s whole life. So gather your household or a group of companions and use these sessions each month to share your journey with Christ and one another.
