THE WORD IS LIFE

The prologue to St. John’s gospel introduces God’s Son as the Word. This life-giving Word—spoken down through the ages—became flesh and lived in our midst. For all of Christian history, the Word is intimately connected with all of human life. It is the purpose of TWIL (“The Word Is Life”) to bring the gospel to life and to bring life to the gospel. This blog will feature reflections on the Sunday Scriptures from contemporary Catholic writers, words of wisdom for our Spiritual journey from saints and blessed, and thoughtful reflections on masterpieces of sacred art. We at Living with Christ hope that they will help you grow in your spiritual life and deepen your relationship with the Word, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Fifth Sunday of Easter: A solid foundation

Categories: The Word Is Life

“Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion, a cornerstone, chosen and precious, and whoever believes in it shall not be put to shame”
(1 Peter 2:6).

A cornerstone lies at the foundation of a building. It is often laid with a formal ceremony, bearing the date when the building began. Jesus is the cornerstone of the Church and Christian society. One of his famous parables gives assurance the building will stand if it is built on rock. He designated Peter as a rock, to be a significant part of the foundation. Our Catholic faith has endured religious storms, persecutions and many struggles for twenty centuries. It still stands tall: proclaiming faith to the world, resting securely on its original cornerstone. Recently we have witnessed the weakening and collapse of many trusted structures in our society. But we have confidence that adverse winds cannot topple nor raging waters erode our Christian faith, for it rests on a solid foundation.

We praise you, Jesus, our spiritual cornerstone.
